Sophomore Sara Borders went 2-for-3 with a double and JSU's lone RBI in the game, while senior Kelci Johnston's 2-for-3 afternoon made her the only other Gamecock with multiple hits. Senior Jessica Guy went 1-for-3 with a triple and scored the team's lone run on a Borders' sacrifice fly in the fifth.
An Alexandria High graduate, Borders ended the three-game series against the Eagles with a .455 average with two doubles and three RBIs. She raises her season average to a team-high .396. Her 16 doubles lead the Ohio Valley Conference.
Junior Tiffany Harbin (13-9) suffered the loss for the Gamecocks on Sunday, surrendering five runs, three earned, on seven hits in 4 1/3 innings in the circle. She struck out one batter to run her career total to 634, one shy of former Gamecock Ann Shelton's school record.
After the two teams split Saturday's doubleheader, the Eagles (18-17, 4-9 Ohio Valley Conference) grabbed a run in the second and two more in the third and never looked back, holding the Gamecocks (24-19, 9-7 OVC) to a run on eight hits in the game.
The Gamecocks (24-19, 9-7 OVC) take the week off for final exams and will return to action with a four-game OVC trip next weekend. They will play a doubleheader at Eastern Illinois on Saturday and two games at Southern Illinois Edwardsville on Sunday.
