HOT BLAST: Run a marathon, drink a beer

Runners and beer. Not exactly the pairing some might expect.

But trust me -- many runners like beer, particularly after long training sessions for marathons. I'm a runner -- I've survived one marathon, barely -- and the idea of a frosty beverage and a pizza was often on my mind when training.

That said, a story this morning in the New York Times caught my attention. It points out all sorts of scientific data that show drinking beer after strenuous exercise has certain benefits. Not binge drinking, of course, but one or two beers, with salt, to replenish the sodium you've lost.

If the topic interests you, then read this and this and this.

This may sound strange to those who don't regularly exercise, but it has merit nonetheless.
