None of those bills have become law.
Nevertheless, this week the Pew Research Center published a report that examined -- in EXTREME detail -- how the use of religious "laws" are already used throughout the United States. The Pew report is so detailed that it breaks down the many different religions and denominations. It's a long but fascinating report.
Likewise, the Pew report contains state-by-state data that shows how so many state legislatures have tried (or succeeded) to feast on the scare-tactic that this has become. In the rush to pass hefty illegal-immigration laws that make lawmakers look tough -- particularly in states that do not have a foreign border or a high population of Latino residents -- these anti-religious laws have become both popular and prevalent.
Regardless of where you stand on this issue, the Pew report is worth your time. Grab a cup of coffee and enjoy.
