Nogie King, an author, life coach and Anniston native, will discuss her latest book this afternoon at Tyson’s Fine Wine and Things.

King will be signing copies of her new book The Currency of Connection: How to Create an Exquisitely Kick-Ass Relationship with Money from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. today.

In a press release, King says:

Growing up in Anniston in the midst of the Civil Rights movement and burning buses, I saw first hand the difference between those with money and power and those without. When I moved to the wilds of Oregon and lived in a tipi, I began to realize that it was not the amount of money that we have that matters, but rather the way that we feel about it that either gives us peace or stress. And when I worked as the Programming Director for a major retreat center, negotiating contracts with the Deepak Chopra’s of the world, I realized that many people – of all walks of life and financial status – have issues with money.

So I began researching and writing about how we feel about money and the impact that belief has on families, cultures and the planet. What I found astounded me.

I discovered that money was actually invented to foster human relationships, not to facilitate trade and commerce, as most economists will tell you! With that awareness, I began to wonder what would the world be like if we got back to thinking about money in relational terms instead of transactional and competitive frames. For a life coach like me this opened a whole new way of looking at and being in the world.
