WEDNESDAY’S LIST ... of beans ’n greens ’n other things:

***

A FOOTBALL weekend in the rearview mirror says:

1. Alabama’s offensive line got its fanny handed to it by VPI.

2. I’m sick of the Johnny Manziel mess. In Saturday’s game it was snap the ball, move the camera to Johnny Arrogance. On every play.

3. If Auburn gets a quarterback, the Tigers could be a good football team.

4. LSU may be as good as anybody, including Alabama.

Enough ... on to next week.

IF YOU’RE looking for the latest signs of Anniston’s failing health, check out the removal of traffic lights around town.

Truth is, they’re no longer needed. A view from along about 24th Street south on Noble looks sort of like a church parking lot on Monday.

That’s a stretch, but not by much. Best I can figure, at least four or more lights have been removed on Noble Street alone. And that includes Noble at 22nd  Street, a once-busy intersection that fed traffic east to Quintard.

Just thought I’d throw that one in ...

LISTEN UP ... say “Look Up.”

It has come to my attention that the people who look after my aging eyes now have a website, “Drs. Murrell, Sevensen, & Ellis.” That’s moving on up.

Dr. Gary Murrell is the one who peers into my eyes and mumbles stuff of which I have not the faintest. But I will stand up in court and testify to their knowledge of  good, bad, and old in-between eyesight.

In fact, on one visit I expressed my confidence in Murrell’s abilities:

“Dr. Murrell, I have no doubt you guys are know something about good eyesight. There’s not a single bad-looking lady on your staff.”

Fact is, they’re all lovely ... and very nice, too.

NOTHING IS forever, not even Foote Brothers Furniture.

A press release in my email reports the only Foote Brothers store remaining is in Sylacauga and it’s closing forever.

Foote Brothers was never in Anniston, but was started in Alabama City back in 1947 and you couldn’t listen to a radio station in this area without hearing a commercial for the company. You got the feeling there was a Foote Brothers Furniture on every street corner in America.

Unless you came in late, you know what I mean.

IN MY “bath library,” there is a copy of "Images of America, Anniston.” It’s a pictorial book of our town from founding into the 1990s and is a good “buddy” to pass some time with.

It was put together by a Kimberly O’Dell, but I have a question. The cover depicts two men with two dogs. Nowhere can I find a photo credit.

If you know, let me know.

IT IS lunch at Jack’s Sunday. I’m ready to leave, the blonde keeps visiting. Verbatim:

Me: “Let’s go. You need to know it’s a 3-mile walk home.”

Wife: “I hope you don’t get tired.”

I love a good “zinger,” even when it hits me. Our Blue Mountain Baptist friends loved that one, too.

Hey, laughter is good medicine, huh?

BIRTHDAYS: Sept. 1 – Jim Martin Sr.; Sept. 4 – Ben Cunningham Sr.; Sept. 6 – Dr. Rohit Patel.

IF THE GOOD Lord’s willing and I can find a high school guidance counselor who isn’t suffering from back-to-work blues, we’ll get our weekly “Teenager of The Week” back here next week.

Thank you for visiting.
