Former Heflin resident, Virginia Pope, was among 20 ladies recently honored by the Junior League of Douglas County, Ga., for outstanding community service.

The "20 Gala's" theme was, "Celebrating 20 years of volunteer service to Douglas County and honoring the service of 20 Douglas County women"

Pope, an Alabama native, came to Douglas County in 1975. In order to learn more about her new home, she began helping Fannie Mae Davis with her historical account of Douglas County "From Indian Trail to Interstate 20".

Having written and published a book of her own, she worked as editor and compiled the information to have it published. Today this book in the official history of Douglas County.
