Calhoun County authorities say a Lincoln man charged with assault Tuesday struck his uncle with a car.

Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Matt Wade said Christopher Short, 20, tried to pull into the driveway he shares with his aunt and uncle while the couple worked on a barbed-wire fence.

Wade said that when Short couldn’t pass by his uncle’s tractor, parked just off the side of the driveway, he accelerated his vehicle and struck his uncle in the leg.

Wade said that after Short hit his uncle, he got out of his car and began yelling at the man. The victim told police he did not respond to Short, who then drove home. The victim then called the police, the deputy said.

Wade said the victim had no visible injuries when deputies arrived.

Short was arrested at 5 p.m. Tuesday at his home on the 3000 block of Mudd Street, according to a police report. He was in the Calhoun County Jail Tuesday on felony second-degree assault charges.

A jail official at the Calhoun County Jail said deputies took Short to a nearby hospital Wednesday because of a pre-existing medical condition, but he has not been released on bond.

Short’s bond is set at $3,000 and his court date is set for Sept. 12, according to a jail official.
