It is time for round number one of the playoffs in the state of Alabama. Saks, Anniston, Lincoln, Handley, Cherokee County, Alexandria, Jacksonville, Oxford, Wellborn, Piedmont, Clay County, Lineville and Woodland all have a chance to reach the Super Six in Tuscaloosa. The old saying is the race is not given to the swift, nor to the strong, but to he that endures to the end. Congratulations to each of our area teams that were fortunate enough to make the playoffs in your classification. There are a lot of exciting college football games slated for this weekend. Alabama will host LSU at Bryant-Denny Stadium and Auburn will host Furman. Lets take a look at this weeks big winners. My record is (110-33).
Geraldine at Clay County — The Clay County Panthers will open the playoffs at home against Geraldine High School. The fans will be hyped for this match-up. The Panthers lost their first game of the season last Friday night against Lincoln. They will be pumped and very angry. Look for a huge crowd and a big Panther victory. Clay County wins 38-12 over Geraldine.
Lincoln at Bibb County — Centreville is the place to be this week when Bibb County takes on the Lincoln Golden Bears. This game will be awesome as two very talented teams go head to head. Lincoln enters this game with a (5-2) region record, having to travel because of a three-way tie in the region with Saks and Anniston. The Golden Bears have a very experienced leader at quarterback and they have a very talented running back in DJ Howard. Lincoln has really improved over the past few weeks and it will show Friday night. Look for the Golden Bears to move to round 2 with an impressive 28-14 victory over Bibb County.
Other High School Scores: Saks 17-6 over Calera, Anniston 19-17 over Jemison, Handley 42-14 over Greensboro, Cherokee County 39-13 over Haleyville, Alexandria 24-7 over Oak Grove, Midfield 20-14 over Jacksonville, Oxford 19-15 over Decatur, Susan Moore 22-14 over Wellborn, Piedmont 27-16 over Pisgah, Lineville 28-13 over Fyffe and Woodland 17-14 over West Brook Christian.
LSU at Alabama — The battle for the Western Division Title will take place this week at Bryant-Denny Stadium. The Alabama Crimson Tide will play host to the Tigers of LSU. What a showdown this will be. Both teams are very talented. They both rely on their defense to control the game. Bama is unbeaten and a victory would just about assure them of a trip to Atlanta to face the Florida Gators. LSU controls their own destiny. They can win a trip to Atlanta with a victory over Alabama, Ole Mississippi and Arkansas. Coach Saban and the Tide are playing at home. This will be a plus. Bama wins 20-14 over LSU.
Furman at Auburn — The Auburn Tigers got a much needed victory last week over Ole Miss. This week they take on Furman at Jordan Hare Stadium. This will be a game for the Tigers to prepare for next weeks huge showdown with the Georgia Bulldogs. Look for Auburn to improve to (7-3) with a 42-19 victory over Furman.
Other College Scores: Florida 35-10 over Vanderbilt, Arkansas 31-21 over South Carolina and Tennessee 28-13 over Memphis.
