The 2009 football season is winding down. We are approaching week number nine of the season. Most of our high school play-off spots are already set. There are a few more to be decided after this weeks region games. The Ranburne Bulldogs will take on the Clay County Panthers in Ranburne. The Heflin Tigers will host the Handley Tigers at LE Bell Field. It's Tennessee versus Alabama and Auburn versus LSU on the college scene. Who will be victorious in week nine? Lets take a quick look and see. My overall record is (87-26).

Clay County at Ranburne — The campus of Ranburne High School will be rocking this week as the Bulldogs take on the Clay County Panthers. This will be a great game. Clay County has already wrapped up the region title. They are unbeaten and have really played well throughout the season. The Ranburne Bulldogs will be pumped and ready. Look for a hard fought game from both schools. Clay County is rolling and they will improve to 9-0 with a big 27-21 victory over Ranburne.

Handley at Heflin — It is a battle of Tiger teams this week at LE Bell Field. The Heflin Tigers will play host to the Tigers of Handley High School. This is a huge game for both schools. Handley can improve to a perfect 9-0 with a victory. The Heflin Tigers could improve to 4-5, making the showdown with Alexandria even more exciting. Look for a good game from both teams. Handley has a little more experience this year and the Heflin Tigers are really young. This will be the key this year as Handley wins 21-7 over Heflin.

Tennessee at Alabama — It is time for that game that all Alabama and Tennessee fans look forward to during the month of October. It is Tennessee versus Alabama from Bryant-Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa. Coach Nick Saban has the Tide cruising toward another Western division Title. This week they must take on a much improved Volunteer team that has had a week off to prepare. Tennessee is also coming into this game with a big win over the Georgia Bulldogs. This game will be a dandy. Look for Alabama to continue to dominate on defense and to find enough offense for a big victory. Alabama wins 24-10 over Tennessee.

Auburn at LSU — Baton Rouge Louisiana is the place to be if you are an Auburn or LSU fan. Coach Gene Chizik and the Auburn Tigers are 5-2 after losing two consecutive weeks in a row. LSU is also entering this contest with a loss. They lost a tough game to the Florida Gators a few weeks ago. Both teams need a win to stay alive in the Western Division race. Look for a great game from both teams. LSU is playing at home and this will be the key this week. LSU wins 19-14 over Auburn.

Other College Scores: Arkansas 28-21 over Ole Mississippi, South Carolina 26-12 over Vanderbilt and Florida defeating Mississippi State 34-9.
