About Us

The Jacksonville News and JaxNews.com are dedicated to the growth and development of Jacksonville and Calhoun County, Ala.

The predecessor of The Jacksonville News was The Jacksonville Republican, which was begun by Dr. Thomas W. Ayers in the late 19th century.
Jacksonville was then the county seat and the center of activity. This paper was later moved to Anniston and through several name changes became The Anniston Star.

The Jacksonville News originated in 1936 by Fred Hume. After several years the paper was purchased by R.K. and Clifford Coffee, who owned it
until 1963 when Calhoun Publishing Co. purchased it. In the mid '80s the paper merged with Consolidated Publishing Co.

The Jacksonville News has served the community for over 65 years and prides itself as being "one of the best weekly newspapers in Alabama."
