LETTER TO THE EDITOR

Positions being filled

07-14-2008

After reading your “ Education salaries mandated by state” article dated July 3, 2008, I felt that I needed to contact you regarding the information printed. I am one of the “couple of teachers” that Cleburne County Board of Education did pink slip.
In the article you quoted Scott Coefield. He said, “The couple of teachers that the system did lose was due to lower enrollment.” If this is true, why are those pink slipped positions being filled with new applicants? The job vacancies for those positions were posted before pink slips were even distributed.
I have resided in Cleburne County for over four years and I have thoroughly enjoyed teaching the last two school years at Cleburne County High. It is unfortunate that instead of driving two miles to work for the 2008-2009 school year, I am forced to take a job 53 miles outside of not only my community, but also out of Cleburne County.
