John Wesley Sheffield

John Wesley Sheffield, 86, of Heflin, Ala. died on Monday, February 18, 2008, at Regional Medical Center in Anniston. Funeral services were held Feb. 21, at Bethel Methodist Church with The Rev. Benny Abney and The Rev. Bill Tribble officiating. Burial followed at Bethel Cemetery in Fruithurst. Graveside services were conducted by the United States Air Force.
Survivors include his two sons, John W. Sheffield Jr., of Fruithurst and Eric Keith Sheffield, of Dacula, Ga.; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; brother, Horace Sheffield, of Barneville, Ga.; special friend, Jo Brown; caregivers, Bonnie Wilson and Bonnie Laminack. Mr. Sheffield was a native of Tallapoosa, Ga. and a resident of the Bethel Community of Cleburne County, Alabama since 1946. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II and the U.S. Air Force until retirement in 1969. He was employed by the Alabama Department of Pension and Security and retired from the County Commodity Program. Mr. Sheffield pastored several church in Cleburne Curcit of the United Methodist Church before retirement in 1983. He was a life member of the Air Force Sgt’s Association, American Legion and a member of the Bethel Methodist Church. Mr. Sheffield was employed by Dryden Funeral Home for several years.
