City approves purchase agreement

07-14-2008

In a vote Tuesday night the Heflin City Council approved a lease agreement to purchase the joint city/county industrial park from the county.
The final paperwork is expected to be completed this month making the complete transfer official.
In other action the city approved placing up to three street lights in the Shadow Lane/Austin Circle area.
Heflin Mayor Anna Berry reported, during a work session, that slightly over $14,000 will be taken from the Streetscape funds to pay Alabama Power to move poles and lines in the downtown area as part of the renovation there.
Heflin's police chief reported that June was an unusually slow month for his department with only 17 arrests, no accidents and 123 business checks.
He did advise everyone to be aware that as the economy goes bad, crime goes up and last weekend there were five car break-ins.
PARD has a successful disc golf tournament over the weekend with 25 participants.
On the building permit side, most permits have been repairing damage following the Mother's Day tornado.
Earlier, the city thanked Jerry Prichard and Prichard Construction Company for providing operators and equipment to assist the city in the cleanup.

July 15 is the deadline to qualify for the municipal election.
