Heflin gets $330,339 for downtown revitalization

05-01-2008

Mayor Anna Berry received a letter from Governor Bob Riley this week, awarding the City of Heflin a $330,339.00 transportation grant for the phase two plan of the downtown revitalization project.
The City received a phase one grant to refurbish the streets and sidewalks from Hunnicutt Street to Bedwell Street two years ago.
The phase one grant will begin construction this summer and be completed by the fall.
The new grant will be for construction on the city block above Hunnicutt Street.
Mayor Berry thanked all who were involved in the grant process, especially Cindy Beam, assistant city clerk.
Beam has been the pointperson for the engineering and design representatives on both grants and planning processes.

“This grant will take us one step closer to helping our downtown merchants attract more business and give the City a much needed facelift,” Mayor Berry said.
