Dumpster placement limited says commissioner

05-01-2008

In response to an article in last week’s Cleburne News concerning placement of a temporary garbage container on Cleburne County Hospital Board property in Ranburne, Commissioner Dwight Williamson made the following comments.
“In a attempt to share “both sides” of a story, the temporary placement of the garbage container at the Ranburne Water & Sewer Board was actually my third option. I consulted with the mayor of Ranburne and the president of the recreational department concerning our dilemma, and both were very willing to help, but we were unable to determine a suitable location. Working within the realm of the container restrictions that it must be on public property, the only option left, if I was going to place a dumpster in my district for the city, was the property rented by the water board.”
He added, “The appointed hospital board chairman and I spoke frequently until Tuesday, April 1st, three days prior to the containers placement. He, nor any other appointed board member or any other constituent, has made any attempt to contact me concerning the containers since that date, so the need for a third party individual for communication with me was strictly by their choice alone. I personally went to the water board Thursday, April 3rd and took several pictures of the property, foreseeing this kind of behavior. I have documentation of the land’s condition before and after and we will repair any damage pertaining to the temporary placement as promised, but not issues that were pre-existing to the land or building. The container sat on the ground away from the building, not on or in the building itself, so please, by all means, fix the county’s building!”
Commissioner Williamson said, “If I “offended” a few to help a lot in an effort to offer a service to my community then so be it! With gas prices approaching $4 per gallon, I felt it would be unfair to expect the people of Ranburne to incur the extra expense of traveling to a location so far away from their homes. I answer to my constituents alone, and if our appointed board members need more answers, they may appear before me at a commission meeting. I am elected, the board is appointed, but we all work for the people. However, it appears a few of us have forgotten! In the meantime, I am excited to see them use monies in District 3 to better our community! I look forward to seeing the proposed improvements come to fruition!”
