Ranburne teacher resigns amid allegations

06-09-2006

The Cleburne County Board of Education has accepted the resignation of Ranburne High School teacher Josh Williamson following an alleged incident at RHS involving Williamson, and a 17-year-old female student.

Cleburne County School Superintendent Scott Coefield said the BOE began their investigation, following recent allegations.

"We did our investigation and found there was some inappropriate behavior on the teacher's part," Coefield said.

Asked if the two had sex, Coefield responded, "No."

Coefield explained that results of their local investigation has been turned over to the State Department of Education and that whether Williamson retains his teaching certification will be up to the state to decide.

He said Williamson worked in Calhoun County prior to being hired by the CCBOE less than three years ago.

Williamson taught several courses and was a softball coach at RHS.

"It is really unfortunate for everyone, all parties involved," Coefield added. He said the incident is the only allegation he has received on the teacher while at RHS.
