More Memories

I know you all remember the athletic reunion that I wrote about this past summer. This was a reunion of CCHS Athletes who played for coaches Rutherford, Rooks, Keahey in the 1960s. I must say, it was one of the most meaningful events of its kind that I have attended. Jerry White (class of 1964), the organizer of the event, wants to invite any of these same "guys" and any others who could not make it this summer to meet him at Jack's on February 9 at 9:30 a.m. There is a chance that some of the coaches will be there also! Get ready to reminisces and hear some tall tales!

Must Say It Again

Once More I want to highly encourage everyone to attend one of the eight performances of Dearly Beloved ... A Southern comedy presented to CAST. The performances will be at the JSU/McClellan Theatre. Dates are February 7, 8, 9, 10, 14, 15, 16 and 17. Tickets can be purchased at the door. For more information, call 820-2278. Four Cleburne residences are in the cast including Mike Crosby, Kathy Ewing, Lolly Payne and with a very small part ... me. Kim Dobbs is director and Tim Doyle is assistant director.

Just So You Know

It is one of my personal policies to NOT get political in my column and I intend to stick to that! However, I don't know about you readers but I am sick to death of the Presidential Campaign ... on both sides How long have they been on the trail anyway? the whole thing is wearing me OUT! although it does get rather exciting. The verbal jabs have been brutal. Considering the television writers strike, the campaign debates and individual interviews have been extremely entertaining! I just wish congress would pass a law that declares that a campaign season can only last one year ... not three! by the time we actually vote, we will be fed up with the whole bunch and we'll probably be tempted to write in Wiley Coyote or Minnie Mouse!

My Soap Box

Speaking of television ... I was most disappointed in this year's Miss America Pageant. Call me old fashion, but I like tradition! This year's event was like a glorified reality show. The dignity was gone as well as the elegance. Besides our Miss Alabama, Jamie Langley was totally left out! I miss the beautiful gowns, the one piece bathing suits and an MC with qualities of Bert Parks! I felt better about my own feelings when I heard these same unsolicited comments made recently by an 18 year old and a lady who is older than I am!

Help Me

If you are tired of hearing my opinion, send me your news! Mail it to 416 Briarcliff Road, Heflin, AL 36264 or email to rkpsop816@yahoo.com.

Bye!

Until next week ... remember ... Experience is what you get when you try real hard and don't get what you want.
