Better yet, they offered each employee glasses, if needed, at a significant reduction in price. Sarrell Eye Center had to close its doors early at 3:45 p.m. to handle the 36 city and county employees who took them up on their offer. Sarrell’s staff finished at 6:30 p.m. “Of the 36 adults we saw, 21 needed glasses. That’s an amazing statistic. We were so happy to help so many people. It is nice to work at a place where we can truly help people without getting involved in personal acolades or personal gain,” stated Brandi Mangum, Sarrell’s Director of Marketing. Mangum added, “These are the people who serve and protect, repairs our streets, administer public policy. Some were elected and some were just plain old hard working folks who needed eye care and we thought they deserved a thank you for all they do.” "It is not only this group we plan to help. We have two fulltime optometrists, both graduates of the prestigious University of Alabama-Birmingham Optometry Program. They drive to Anniston, Bessemer and/or Heflin everyday to primarily help underserved children. We hope we can help adults thru programs similar to the one we ran in Heflin on Friday. This is not our one and only attempt to give back to the communities that we serve.” |
